The imagination of the psych. Dutch. De verbeelding van de psycho-kundige (Amsterdam: Swets & Zeitlinger, 112 p., horizontal, illustrated, w. notes & sources. ISBN 90-265-1178-7). Further elaboration of a series of articles published in Pychologie Magazine – the Dutch equivalent of Psychology Today.

A tongue-in-cheek ‘phenomenological’ analysis of cartoons about the interaction of the professionals with their subjects. Separate chapters on the depiction of experiments and tests: with children and workers, clients and patients, or even criminals.

The author also helped develop a related exhibition of psy-cartoons in Dutch for the national convention of psychologists in Groningen, and in English for the subsequent Cheiron conference on the History of Behavioural Sciences in Groningen. The materials were deposited at the Documentation Centre for Dutch Psychology.

The book also includes two early chapters about the depiction of psycho-experts in Dutch and Belgian comic strips. For a later ‘psychoanalysis’ of major world-renowned classical comic strips, see the Dutch book about ‘Comic strip heroes on the couch’ (2002).
